Access Statement

Everyone is welcome at Acorn Place. If there are any specific requests or questions you would like to discuss, please don’t hesitate in contacting us by telephone or e-mail.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities.

The house is situated on the northern outskirts of Ludlow in a rural position, surrounded by fields and accessed along a tree lined driveway. The driveway leads onto a sweeping gravelled area. There is ample car parking to the side of the house. On arrival you will be met and offered assistance with your luggage.

Main entrance and Hall way.

The main entrance is at the front of the house.

The approach to the front door has a small 10cm step and then a larger 24cm step.

There is an outside light above the door.

The doorway is 80cm wide and opens onto an oak floor.

A mains operated smoke alarm is situated on the ceiling.

The door from the hall way to our Whitcliffe room is 67cm wide.

There are 15 steps to the first floor Long Mynd room. The staircase is carpeted and each stair is 18cm high and 25cm deep. Halfway up the stairs there is a small half landing.

Banisters run the whole length.

Breakfast Room

Access to the breakfasting area, 4.00 m x 2.10 m, is through the house. There are three doors to negotiate;

  • From the hall which is 77cm wide.
  • From our Dining room (wooden floor) through to the kitchen (ceramic tiles) which is 73cm wide (please note a small 2cm step)
  • From the kitchen to your breakfast room (ceramic tiles) which is 75cm wide.

We have three dining tables with two chairs to each table. Four chairs are 45cm high and the other two are 43cm high. All the chairs are armless. Furniture can be moved on request.

Bedrooms

All bedrooms are en-suite and have;

  • Tea and coffee making facilities (fresh milk is provided upon arrival).
  • Remote control TV (with teletext) and CD/Radio Player.
  • Easy chairs and coffee tables.
  • Wardrobes and chest of drawers.
  • Hairdryer.
  • Iron and ironing board available on request.
  • Each room has main ceiling light and bedside table lamps.
  • All bathrooms are tiled. Rubber mats are provided for bath and shower.
  • Guest information pack.
  • Rooms are lockable.

Long Mynd Room

Our family room measures 5.15m x 3.65m and has a double (140cm wide) and single (100cm) bed. The beds, to the top of the mattress, measure 60cm high. There are 46cm between the beds and there is access on all sides.

The room is carpeted and the furnishings, furniture and wall finishes offer good contrast.

There is a step down to the bathroom (23cm). The bathroom measures 3.60m x 1.70m and has a sloping roof with a velux window. It is has an electric towel rail, suite in white with a panelled bath, pedestal hand wash basin and flush WC and shaver point.

Please refrain from using the shower attachment as a shower.

Whitcliffe Room

There are no steps to negotiate once inside the Whitcliffe annexe.

Whitcliffe’s bedroom measures 4.60m x 3.70m. It has a king-sized bed 170cm wide and measures 67cm high. There are two bedside tables and access on both sides of the bed. The floor is carpeted and the furnishings, furniture and wall finishes offer good contrasts.

The en-suite shower room measures 3.30m x 1.15m. It has a glazed window with obscure glass. The all white suite has a flush WC, pedestal hand wash basin, shower, shaver point and electric extractor fan. There is an 18cm step into the 70cm x 70cm shower.

Whitcliffe’s kitchenette measures 3.85m x 1.76m. It has a range of base cupboards, a single drainer stainless steel sink and wall cabinet. The room is equipped with a fridge, microwave, toaster and a two ringed hot-plate. Crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment are also provided. There is also a dining table 74 cm high and two chairs 46cm tall.

As well as using the main entrance, Whitcliffe has its own front door from the kitchen area. There are two steps from the kitchen to the garden totalling 34cm. The door is 64cm wide.

Clee Hill Rooms

There are no steps to negotiate once inside the Clee Hill annexe rooms. This is in effect a private wing of the house. Access is to the side of the main house. There is a 20cm step up into the kitchen/living area. The floor is laminated. The kitchen, measuring 4.52m x 3.60m, comes fully equipped and with fridge, electric cooker and sink. There is a dining table (74cm high) with two chairs (46cm tall) with an additional easy chair and sofa bed.

The bathroom measures 3.15m x 1.65m. It has a glazed window with obscure glass. The all white suite has a flush WC, pedestal hand wash basin, shaver point, panelled bath and a 70cm x 70cm shower (26cm step into it). There is a grab handle next to the toilet and one near the bath.

NB we do have an adjustable handle available. The bedroom measures 5.30m x 2.75m. The bed can be made up as two single beds or a super king-sized bed 188cm wide. The bed measures 67cm from the floor. There are two bedside tables and good access on all sides of the bed(s). The floor is carpeted and the furnishings, furniture and wall finishes offer good contrasts.

All the doors are 76cm wide.

There is a 7cm step from Clee Hill to the breakfast room.

Fire Alarms

As well as having hard wired smoke and heat detectors, the house also has battery operated alarms in all the guest bedrooms. The two kitchen areas have dry powder extinguishers and all rooms have a torch.

Gardens

We do encourage guests to use our garden at the front of the house. We do have a pond and ask guests to take all the necessary precautions in and around the water.
